Rooted in the heart of IIUM Gombak, Jauhar Urban Farming is more than an agricultural initiative. It is a commitment to sustainable practices, student empowerment, and a closer relationship between campus and nature.
Our story
From unused land to living farm.
Jauhar Urban Farming began in 2021, when students from Mahallah Halimah, Mahallah Siddiq, and Mahallah Maryam at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) decided that an underused 1,000 square metre plot of campus land could become something more. Working alongside CITRA IIUM (Centre for Arts and Cultural Sustainable Development) and with support from the university and external partners, the plot was transformed into productive fertigation beds, with cucumbers as our signature crop.
Today, the harvest feeds the campus community and beyond: we sell fresh cucumbers and host pick-your-own farm tours. Good harvests bring their own challenge, an oversupply of cucumbers, so on standout weeks we also share the extra with local charity kitchens like Warung Makan Sahabat. Along the way, the farm has earned innovation and entrepreneurship awards as a model of student-driven urban agriculture.
This season we're also trialling rockmelon and kangkung (water spinach) alongside our usual cucumber beds, testing what else this plot can grow well before deciding what to bring to market.

Our vision
To be a leading model of smart, technology-driven urban agriculture on campus — where IoT-based monitoring and water-efficient fertigation make sustainable food production part of everyday student life.
Our in-house system, Jauhar Farming Intelligence (JFI), tracks fertigation temperature and nutrient levels in real time and lets us control pumps remotely from a mobile app.
Our mission

- Share surplus harvest with the wider community, from campus to local charity kitchens.
- Open the farm as a hands-on learning space for students and visitors.
